Challenge
Many izakaya and restaurant websites fail to capture the essence of the dining experience. Customers often face outdated interfaces, unclear navigation, and limited digital ordering options, leading to low engagement and poor conversion rates.
Objective
The goal was to redesign Mayumi’s visual system and website to create a modern, conversion-friendly digital experience while preserving its traditional Japanese character. The project aimed to: Establish a cohesive visual identity rooted in Japanese aesthetics. Improve the reservation and ordering journey, making it intuitive and mobile-friendly. Showcase Mayumi’s story, chefs, and cuisine through bold storytelling and high-quality visuals. Strengthen the restaurant’s online presence to better connect with both local diners and international visitors.
Results
Delivered a unified brand system blending traditional Japanese textures, typography, and modern web design. Created a streamlined user journey, with clearer navigation and consistent CTAs (“Book a Table,” “Explore Menu”), resulting in smoother reservations and online orders. Designed a digital ordering interface optimized for dine-in and takeout, with customization options (e.g., spice levels, notes). Elevated Mayumi’s cultural storytelling, positioning the izakaya as both an authentic dining destination and a memorable brand in San Francisco’s competitive food scene.
